About the Project

The IDEA (Inventing Dishes European Art) Project is a two year project (2008-2010) in which adults with learning difficulties use food and cooking as a “leit motif” to communicate with people from other countries and cultures.

The countries and organisations involved are:

Cyprus - Prosvasi

Germany – Robert Kümmert Akademie

Spain - FASAD

UK - HFT

During the project four visits will take place to each of the participating countries, coinciding with local festivals. During the visits, as well as preparing typical dishes together and samping local products, participants will visit places of cultural interest.

By the end of the project the participants will have designed and created a book which combines information about culture and food with simple recipes from each country.

This website is a tool used by those involved in the project to communicate with participants in different countries, to exchange recipes and share memories of the visits.

The five objectives of the project are to

-          Share and celebrate cultural heritage

-          Develop communication skills

-          Promote the visibility and inclusion of people with learning difficulties

-          Enhance participants’ self-esteem

-          Exchange good practice between profesionals

The IDEA Project is part of Grundtvig, the European Commission´s Lifelong Learning Programme.   The Grundtvig Programme aims to promote partnerships between organisations delivering adult training and learning. The organisations participating in this project specialise in providing services for people with disabilities.
